When I was a child my father was a pastor, so I had a lot of spiritual influence. When I was three my father died of cancer and shortly after my mother remarried. Because of family problems, as a teenager I didn’t know who I was or what my purpose was. I felt alone. I didn’t believe in myself and I believed that I had no future. Then, one night I got in a bad accident with a friend.

It was then that I realized that I must be alive for a reason. I remembered seeing old photos of my parents in Africa as missionaries before I was born. I remembered the lasting impression that my father left on this earth with his life. I prayed that God would make use of my life by allowing me to help other people in a similar way.

I got a job at a youth Detox and then it wasn’t long before I wanted to work in a ministry full time as a missionary. I prayed that God would help me decide. It’s a long story, but a couple of weeks later someone put my name on a list (and paid the 100$ deposit) to go to Mexico on a short term mission trip. I didn’t even get a chance to say no!

Since then, my life has changed dramatically. I have spent over three and a half years in Mexico. I can’t stay in Canada, I feel out of place there now. When I am in Canada and try to say, "I am going back to Aguascalientes (Mexico) soon", I frequently slip up and say "I’m going back home soon."

Aguascalientes is the second orphanage that I have volunteered in. I have spent two and a half years here. Most of the time I spent in construction but I also have lived with and cared for the young boys. My plan now is to continue serving here doing the same and more.

Thank you for reading.
