A brief history of Pan de Vida

Pan de Vida Ministries was founded in the fall of 1990 by Paul and Ona Seaton. It was created with the purpose of helping abused and abandoned children.  In February of  1994 the institution was handed over to María Elena and Darío Hilbrands. Pan de Vida had 12 children at the time.

By 1996, the number of children had increased to 40, requiring more and better facilities to be able to manage more children.

Pan de Vida obtained a 3 hectares (7.5 acres) of property in 2000 through donations. Construction began in 2001.  Dormitories, a dining hall, a school, workshops, and storage areas were built with the help of volunteers, businesses, foundations and the state and federal government.

A bachelor's degree in Pedagogy was started in 2005 with the purpose of  better preparing our teachers for the challenges of Christian teaching. See our page at  www.ilmes.org

At this point we have graduated over 100 students from elementary school, 40 from junior high school and 15 from high school.  There are 13 full-time volunteers and 20 other part-time volunteers to help care for around 110 children

Pan de Vida offers abused and abandoned child the possibility to be in a place that they can call home.
